| 3. Balanced Scorecard In this one hour breakout session, we will present the Oracle Balanced Scorecard and how it is used as a strategic management system. To support this presentation, we will discuss a conceptual performance management framework and demonstrate how it is implemented in an automated Balanced Scorecard System. A successful Balanced Scorecard implementation will effectively communicate the effectiveness of a company's business strategy to management, staff and ultimately stakeholders by associating Key Performance Indicators. Companies who use the Balanced Scorecard have gained enormous benefits by aligning its operational initiatives to the company's strategic objectives by measuring the effectiveness of these initiatives on an ongoing, iterative basis. | Kevin Bromberg - Oracle | |
| 4. Using ASP to provide web-based access to your Apps (Drill A) Home Wireless has been using Oracle Applications version 10.7 NCA for over a year now. We started to realize the applications were sometimes more complex than necessary. Our background is in web design. Home Wireless Networks is a startup with about 150 employees with venture capital coming from Lucent. For the last two years, we've focused on a technology developed by Microsoft called Active Server Pages. Files created with Active Server Pages have the extension .ASP. With ASP files, you can activate your Web site using any combination of HTML, scripting--such as JavaScript or Visual Basic® Scripting Edition (VBScript)--and components written in any language. This means your ASP file is simply a file that can contain any combination of HTML, scripting, and calls to components. When you make a change on the ASP file on the server, you need only save the changes to the file-the next time the Web page is loaded, the script will automatically be compiled. Using ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) or OLE DB, we have access from within our ASP pages to an Oracle database. From here, we use Oracle PL/SQL data manipulation language to perform query, update, insert, and delete functions. On our current project, we've identified elements of an Oracle financial and supply-chain application that would be better suited for web-based access via a browser. Examples of this are real-time finished goods in inventory, writing purchase requisitions, shipping and tax information, and system administration functions like monitoring concurrent managers and viewing users online by user name. We integrate with NT accounts for secure access to the web pages based on the user's needs. This gives tightly controlled access to the applications and requires no client installation of software, be it SC or NCA. | Lance Walton - Home Wireless | |
