Date: Tuesday, March 18, 1997
Time Called: 2:30 p.m.
Location: The Tensar Corporation, Promenade II, Midtown
Atlanta
I. Orientation: Brenda Carlton
After introductions Brenda presented information regarding the
Atlanta OAUG. The Atlanta group has been formed to give Atlanta
area Oracle users another available outlet to discuss their problems
and make suggestions as well as to share and review existing and
future Oracle products and upgrades. It also provides networking
opportunities for Oracle users in the Atlanta area to solve individual
problems without contacting Oracle first. Finally, Brenda presented
information on the Atlanta OAUG web page (www.atloaug.org) and
list server. Both of these should help members keep in touch
with the on-going activities of the ATL-OAUG.
II. Presentation: "The Nuts and Bolts of the Mid-South
OAUG Organization" Deborah Ripic -Tactics, Inc.
To assist us with organizing our group, Deborah discussed the
aspects of the Mid-South OAUG organization and how it interacts
with Oracle users and consultants to provide useful information
on Oracle products and upgrades. It also serves as a liaison
with Oracle to provide the company with problems encountered by
users.
III. Presentation: "Payables - End of Month Close Process"
Jackie Watson - BT North America
Jackie presented a fast-paced and very organized view of the BTNA
system of closing payables each month. Using Oracle Payables
and reports from Oracle G-L, Jackie demonstrated the ways in which
the BTNA staff avoid the pitfalls of payables close. Specifically,
she showed how BTNA's hierarchy allows for a structured approach
to entering, approving, and posting the month-end payables run.
Jackie then followed by answering questions regarding the BTNA
approach.
IV. Presentation: "Integrating a Fax Server into Oracle
Applications" Mike Greer - Tactics, Inc.
Mike presented an overview and handout of how to use fax software
available from a variety of vendors to send Oracle reports to
remote users. The overview showed a brief set-up of how to send
reports to users directly from your desktop without downloading
them into MSWord or Excel. This provides for instant availability
of reports which, with the right fax equipment, will be clean
an easy to read.
V. Presentation: "Oracle Financial Analyzer" - Deborah Ripic - Tactics, Inc.
Deborah presented a shortened version of her original report because
of technical difficulties with the overhead projector. The Oracle
Financial Analyzer is an enterprise solution for multi-dimensional
analysis, budgeting and planning. It helps to meet financial
objectives including simplifying the budgeting and forecasting
process, answering ad hoc requests efficiently, and identifying
areas for profit improvement. Deborah showed how its features
can be used and adjusted to fit the individual needs of each user
and company.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m. for networking at Houlihan's
in Colony Square .
Thanks to The Tensar Corporation for allowing us the use of
