Shared services organizations have expanded rapidly over the last 5 years across all types of businesses. Nearly always shared service operations involve some amount of inter-company transactions. These need to be automated; otherwise it will be difficult to take full advantage of the concept. We will review the strategy and experience of selected Oracle customers with the implementation and support of these operations. Shared service concepts may require inter-company transactions between divisions, between legal entities within the US, or across many international subsidiaries. They may involve pooled bank accounts, cross-entity purchasing and payment arrangements, cross-charging for goods and services. How do other companies use the Oracle applications suite to support and automate these complex operations? What extensions and customization did they need to develop? Which standard functions of the applications are beneficial and which ones are standing in the way? How are decisions about multi-org structure and chart of accounts made? Which add-on products are being used successfully? What are the lessons for other users? We will present a panel with members from management and implementation teams.
